牡蠣(學名 Ostrea gigas Thunberg,今多作 Crassostrea gigas)為牡蠣科海產貝類的貝殼或肉。別稱蠣殼、蠣粉、蚵仔殼。常見種類有太平洋牡蠣(C. gigas,藥用最普遍)、長牡蠣(C. rivularis)、大牡蠣(O. edulis),以太平洋牡蠣殼大、鈣質高。

五行顏色主要對照:多呈白灰,主屬金。

藥性、性味歸經:性微寒,味鹹澀,入肝、腎經。

功效與應用:敛陰、潛陽、軟堅散結、制酸止痛。用於陰虛盜汗、自汗、驚悸失眠、肝陽上亢頭暈、癭瘤癥瘕、胃酸過多胃脘痛等。《本草綱目》載其「軟堅散結,制酸止痛」。治肝陽亢可配龍骨、天麻;治盜汗自汗可用與麻黃根、浮小麥同方;胃酸過多配海螵蛸、白芍。多以煅牡蠣入煎,生用偏重收斂制酸,煅用力更穩;脾胃虛寒者慎服。
